Luan Peres has been ruled out of Santos’ match with Red Bull Bragantino after fracturing the fourth metacarpal in his left hand, according to Diario Do Peixe. The 15th-round Campeonato Brasileiro match is at Vila Belmiro on Sunday.

The centre-back sustained the injury in the derby with Palmeiras on 2 May, but it was only identified a few hours before kick-off.

Coach Cuca had planned to start him, with the defender set to return in place of João Ananias, who started the draw with Recoleta in the Copa Sudamericana.

In his absence, Adonis Frías will partner Lucas Veríssimo at centre-back.

The delay in detection owed to the break being a fine crack. Since the derby, Peres had reported pain that was initially treated as the result of a knock, and no detailed tests were carried out at first.

Confirmation came only moments before the game after the pain worsened and he underwent an examination.
