Coventry City continued their great start to the season with a 4-0 victory away at Millwall
Frank Lampard has praised Coventry City’s supporters following their 4-0 win away at Millwall.
The Sky Blues have asserted themselves as one of the Championship’s deadliest outfits during the opening stages of the 2025/26 campaign, with their 7-1 battering of QPR sending shockwaves throughout the division.
Coventry currently sit two points behind league leaders Middlesbrough in second place and are, along with Boro, one of two sides yet to taste defeat this season.
Lampard took over at the CBS Arena in November 2024 following the controversial dismissal of Mark Robins but quickly galvanised the club’s fanbase with strong performances that ultimately led to a place in the play-offs.
Coventry were minutes away from a penalty shoot-out, which would’ve given them a real shot at making it through to the final, but a Dan Ballard header scuppered those dreams.
The Sky Blues haven’t let this heartbreak impact them this season though, and they already look a safe bet to be in the fight for promotion once more come May.
After their recent hammering of Millwall, Lampard took time to mention how impressed he was with his supporters during the contest and how it highlights the level Coventry are currently playing at.
In his post-match interview with the club’s media channels, Lampard was quick to express his delight with the Sky Blues’ faithful for their brilliant support throughout the encounter.
“The support was amazing,” exclaimed Lampard. “That’s to be expected.
“But I’m not taking it loosely there.
“I think that they feel the team are playing well and giving everything.”
Lampard has enjoyed an extremely positive time since being appointed as Coventry City manager in 2024, having only tasted defeat in 12 of his 43 matches in charge.
His side have scored 22 goals in their opening eight league matches, which is by far the highest number any side in the division has been able to produce.
In fact, the closest team to matching that total is Bristol City, who have netted 14 times, highlighting just how potent Coventry’s attack has been.
Strong unity between a club’s management and supporters usually only comes during times of success, so Lampard’s admiration for Coventry’s supporters highlights just how well they are performing on the pitch.
The Sky Blues look to be serious promotion contenders, with seemingly very few sides in the league able to prevent their attack from running riot.
If Lampard can keep his side playing at this level, his reputation among the Coventry City faithful will only increase.
Coupled with a realistic shot at promotion, the former Chelsea and England midfielder has all the motivation he needs to keep pushing the CBS Arena outfit forward this term.
