Coventry City are back in the Premier League after 25 years, clinching promotion with a 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers on Friday night under Frank Lampard.
As reported by L'Équipe, Lampard’s side have set the pace for much of the campaign. A travelling contingent of 7,500 covered 185 kilometres and celebrated around 11pm at Ewood Park.
They are 13 points clear of third-placed Millwall with four matches left, so cannot be caught. The title is not yet clinched, although the gap to second-placed Ipswich Town, 11 points but with two matches more, looks healthy.
The Sky Blues were dominant despite a midwinter dip, taking 16 points from a possible 39 between 6 December and 7 February. They have been top since the 10th matchday, apart from a brief slip on the 31st.
Coventry last played in the top flight in 2000-2001, when they went down with Bradford City and Manchester City after finishing 19th. They later dropped to League Two in 2017-2018, making this West Midlands resurgence especially sweet for supporters.
Fans will salute their heroes on Tuesday when Portsmouth visit the Coventry Building Society Arena.
