Sheffield Wednesday's wait for a takeover looks set to continue
Sheffield Wednesday’s wait for a takeover continues to roll on.
The Owls have been in administration since late October, when former owner Dejphon Chansiri was unable to satisfy a £1m HMRC bill. Since then, a flurry of activity has surrounded the club.
Despite being hit with an automatic 12-point deduction, which has since been increased to 18, which all but confirms their relegation down to League One, there has been no shortage of interest in the Steel City side.
As many as 80 parties showed a desire to take over Sheffield Wednesday at one stage, with that list since being whittled down to only the most serious prospects.
Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley made a bid of £20m for the Owls, which was immediately bettered by three other parties, forcing the businessman to come back with a new offer.
US billionaire John McEvoy has also been consistently linked with a takeover, alongside former professional poker player James Bord, who has consulted for Sheffield United in the past amid their push for AI-driven recruitment.

A deadline of December 5 was initially set as a potential date when one party would be granted exclusivity to complete a takeover.
Due to the sheer number of interested groups, it was pushed back. However, the end still isn’t in sight for a new owner to take over the Steel City side.
According to Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett via X, the administrators in charge of selling Sheffield Wednesday are still yet to receive a suitable offer which would allow one party exclusivity.
Dorsett affirms that a preferred buyer was hoped to be found weeks ago, but the process has since been delayed.
This isn’t thought to be a major issue, with viable buyers reported still to be in talks.

Although some of the Owls’ faithful would’ve hoped to know who would be leading them forward by now, they will be more than willing to bide their time.
The fans at Hillsborough know all too well what can happen under the wrong owner and will want the administrators to be 100 per cent confident in whichever party they provide the chance to purchase Wednesday.
Due to Chansiri’s mismanagement, the 2025/26 campaign is a write-off for Sheffield Wednesday, with their relegation to the third-tier practically confirmed at this moment in time.
Therefore, the administrators are under no rush to make a decision on who they provide exclusivity to, as it is a choice that will determine the Owls’ fate as a football club.
