It was reported in September that the Owls are keen on a deal for the versatile 31-year-old forward, who has been without a club since his release from Millwall over the summer. Sheffield Wednesday are looking to strengthen the side amid their financial issues.

Sheffield Wednesday are currently under an embargo that prevents them from paying a fee to sign players, but they were given permission from the EFL to bring in the two free agents in November, and Watmore could well be next.

Following a 3-0 defeat to Derby County last night, Henrik Pedersen's side are 29 points adrift of safety, but they continue to look at ways of improving. However, they will need to clear their remaining EFL breaches before being granted permission to add any more free agent signings to their squad.

There have been further developments regarding Watmore and Sheffield Wednesday since, with Joe Crann of The Star providing the latest information on his situation at Hillsborough.

He states that Watmore might get a runout for Sheffield Wednesday's U-21 team today against Fleetwood Town. He is now waiting to see how things play out regarding a potential deal for the attacker.

Watmore can operate as a winger or striker and he is looking for his next contract. Cooper and Redmond penned deals until summer 2026 and January 2026 respectively.

Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a 100% chance of relegation by Opta, after the latest defeat to Derby. However, this is an opportunity for numerous players to show some character and quality during the remainder of this season.

Players like Cooper, Redmond, and Watmore could all be a part of a promotion charge in League One, providing that the takeover situation at Hillsborough is resolved swiftly.

It's potentially an exciting period for the club to look forward to at some stage, and players will want to be a part of the journey to get a club of their size and stature back where it belongs. This year will reveal who is up for that challenge, and Watmore is certainly someone with experience in this regard.
