Gennaro Gattuso has begun work at Lazio without an official unveiling, arriving at the Formello training ground today.

According to Football Italia, he met club directors to discuss transfer strategy and the final details of what is widely reported to be a two-year deal.

Lazio parted company with Maurizio Sarri by mutual consent after a difficult year that featured many discussions between the hierarchy and their tactician.

Sarri is now heading towards Atalanta, and he has been replaced by former Italy CT Gattuso, who resigned after the failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Gattuso was accompanied by long-term assistant Luigi Riccio, team manager Stefan Derkum and director Alberto Bianchi.

The squad are expected to assemble for medical tests on July 10, then begin pre-season training at Formello on July 13.
