With AC Milan already trailing in the Scudetto race, the need for reinforcements is clear. For that reason, the club have identified three areas to target.
It feels like there has already been a write-off of the season for some Milan fans, and it is understandable why. In Europe, the Rossoneri face a difficult challenge to progress, especially with Real Madrid still to play.
Domestically, things are somehow worse. Already there is a sizeable gap between themselves and Napoli and the midweek defeat only worsened the current situation.
Because of this, the management have identified three areas to target in the upcoming mercatos, and Gazzetta dello Sport writes that moves could be made ‘as early as January’. There are shortcomings in the squad, and the Diavolo are aware of this, but they must find a solution soon.
The report suggests that Milan are looking for a left-back, a holding midfielder and also a winger.
Starting with a left-back, Theo Hernandez’s recent absence proved that the Rossoneri need an actual deputy – which they obviously don’t have. Several names are floating around, but it seems Patrick Dorgu is preferred with the management seeing him as ‘another Theo’.
In midfield, Youssouf Fofana has been fantastic since arriving, but he does not have an apt replacement, and the Diavolo do not want to damage him by overusing him. So his minutes must be shared by someone with similar traits.
Finally, the right-wing position is being scrutinised. Samuel Chukwueze has shown signs of improvement, but if there is nothing further shown, perhaps a decision will be made, which explains why the Diavolo are keeping tabs on Federico Chiesa.
