Lazio are prepared to let Mario Gila’s deal run to June 2027 rather than accept a cut-price sale, despite growing interest from Napoli and Milan in a centre-back who has stood out in Serie A over the past 12 months.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Napoli have tracked the Spaniard for over a month and he has become a top defensive priority for incoming coach Massimiliano Allegri and sporting director Giovanni Manna.

Napoli hold a strong hand. Champions League football is understood to appeal significantly to Gila, who has never played in the competition, and his Serie A experience means little adaptation would be required.

Allegri is understood to admire the defender, having eyed him during his time at Milan, which adds momentum to Napoli’s pursuit.

Milan’s interest has effectively stalled after their leadership overhaul, and Gila was a favourite of outgoing sporting director Igli Tare.

Lazio are content to wait, and under Lotito they have often opted to risk a free rather than deal under duress.
