Girona set unwanted Champions League record in Feyenoord clash | OneFootball

La Liga outfit Girona have on Wednesday secured an altogether undesired piece of European football history.

After slipping to a heartbreaking opening day defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, the Blanquivermells have kicked their Champions League campaign back into gear, in a meeting with Dutch giants Feyenoord.

As things stand at the Estadi Montilivi, the hosts find themselves a goal down, after Feyenoord responded to David López’s opener with a pair of goals in the space of ten minutes.

And yet, as alluded to above, Girona have on Wednesday nevertheless managed to make history.

As revealed by statisticians Opta, after Paulo Gazzaniga’s own goal against PSG was tonight added to by a further own goal on the part of Yangel Herrera, Girona have become:

‘The first side in Champions League history to net an own goal in each of their first two games in the competition,’ as well as ‘the first team to concede their first two goals by own goals in the competition’.

*Update* – Incredibly, Girona have since added yet another own goal through Ladislav Krejčí, trailing by three goals to two as a result.
