London City Lionesses have completed the signing of Grace Geyoro from Paris Saint-Germain in a world record deal.
It represents a remarkable coup for the Women’s Super League newcomers, whose £1.43m outlay eclipses the £1.1m deal that took Lizbeth Ovalle from the Mexican club Tigres UANL to Orlando Pride last month.
Chelsea had also expressed interest in signing the 28-year-old Geyoro, who was part of the PSG side that broke Lyon’s 14-year stranglehold over the Première Ligue in 2021, when the season ended prematurely because of the global pandemic.
The France international joined the club as a 15-year-old and went on to score 53 goals in 270 games. She has twice been a runner-up in the Champions League with PSG, first in the 2015 defeat to Frankfurt and then in 2017, when she missed a penalty in the climactic shootout against Lyon.
Geyoro has racked up 103 appearances for France and scored twice for her country in their run to the Euro 2025 quarter-finals.
Jocelyn Prêcheur, the London City Lionesses’ head coach who worked with Geyoro for a season during his season-long tenure at PSG, said the midfielder would bring quality, experience and leadership to his squad.
“Grace has so many qualities, technically, physically of course as a player,” said Prêcheur. “But what people maybe don’t know is how she can be in the changing room, out of the pitch.
“She’s a complete player with a lot of experience, a player I know very well. It has been a lot of talking during all the summer to make this deal but I am very happy, I am very satisfied, and I’m looking forward to starting to work with her.”
Geyoro’s signing, which follows hot on the heels of Spain youth international Lucía Coralles’ £430,000 deadline-day arrival from Barcelona, completes a summer of lavish spending by London City since securing promotion last season.
Other high-profile signings have included Jana Fernández, also signed from Barcelona, the Dutch midfielder Daniëlle van de Donk, Katie Zelem, the former Manchester United captain, and the England striker Nikita Parris.
London City begin their WSL campaign against Arsenal on Saturday, with Geyoro potentially set to make her debut on Sunday week at home to Manchester United.
