Pep Guardiola has confirmed Erling Haaland will be ready to play against Burnley after recovering from the back issue which forced him off against Arsenal.
The Norwegian striker was taken off in the second half of the 1-1 draw with Arsenal last week, and there were fears that it could be serious, but his manager said simply: “He is ready.”
Updating on other injury news, Guardiola listed some players who are still out injured, including Mateo Kovacic, who has been out since mid-May. He revealed that the midfielder could return soon.
“Ait Nouri, Cherki, Khusanov, Marmoush all out. Kovacic maybe.”
Expanding on Kovacic, he added: “It’s a long-term injury, surgery, but he is getting better. He is not fully ready but step by step.”
Burnley’s visit also features the possible return of Kyle Walker to the stadium where he was part of such a successful period, and Guardiola is certain he will receive a good welcome from the City supporters.
“I’m pretty sure everybody will be happy to see him. It was an unbelievable few years for us and he was the right-back who defined our time here in the last nine or 10 years. I’m pretty sure he will get the gratitude of our fans. Absolutely he deserves it. He is one of the greatest full-backs ever.
“In terms of consistency and no injuries and playing every single game. He was an incredible figure in the locker room.
“In eight years he won six Premier Leagues and a Champions League. He was always there in the good moments and the bad moments. The last season was tough for him and for everyone. But I don’t judge one behaviour for a short period of time. He was unbelievable.”
