Guga video resurfaces after Fluminense miss as Flamengo clinch Carioca title | OneFootball

A resurfaced 2019 clip of Guga celebrating Flamengo’s Libertadores triumph did the rounds after the Fluminense full-back had a penalty saved by Rossi, a moment that proved pivotal as Flamengo clinched the Carioca title on Sunday.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the boyhood Flamengo supporter became a meme online after the save.

The shootout had already seen Luiz Araújo miss for Flamengo. Fluminense then held the edge when Guga stepped up, but Rossi kept it out. Later, Otávio failed from the spot for Fluminense, sealing Flamengo’s Carioca three-peat.

Back in 2019, while at Atlético Mineiro, Guga went viral after enthusiastically celebrating Flamengo’s Libertadores win, apparently in a hotel room, using Adriano Imperador’s famous catchphrase.

Atlético fans called for his immediate dismissal, but he carried on and has never worn the Flamengo shirt. On Sunday he faced the inevitable taunts.
