Valencia are close to finalising the signing of Guido Rodríguez after a week of talks, and are working to complete the final details for a key 26/27 addition.

According to Superdeporte, CEO of Football Gourlay and coach Carlos Corberán entered negotiations confident, with the deal driven by fresh financial backing and Corberán’s push since March meetings with Kiat Lim.

Valencia had no plan B. They monitored other midfielders but opened no alternatives, something the player and his agents understood, and he has indicated his acceptance.

Corberán views Rodríguez as the ideal organiser thanks to his authority, experience and knowledge of the dressing room and LaLiga. The club outlined an ambitious, Europe-chasing project in April, and the midfielder is settled in the city with his family.

Determined to correct last summer’s error at pivot with Baptiste Santamaría, Valencia made a winter move to bring Rodríguez from Aston Villa.

Talks have been long, with brief doubt in early June when Lionel Scaloni considered the Valencianista to replace the injured Leonardo Balerdi in Argentina’s World Cup squad. He was not selected, and supporting the national team from home, he is now closer to signing after three months of negotiations.
