Marcel Hartel could return to German football as Hannover scouted the midfielder as a replacement for Daisuke Yokota, who is on the verge of joining Scottish Premiership giants Glasgow Rangers.

The 30-year-old scored 18 goals in 59 games for St. Louis City after joining them from St. Pauli in 2024. Lutz Pfannenstiel was the architect of the move at the time, but the former well-traveled goalkeeper has since moved to Aberdeen.

Sky Sports now report that only the final details are left to be clarified for Hartel’s return to Germany. The former Germany U21 international also played for 1. FC Köln, Union Berlin and Arminia Bielefeld.
