Chelsea face a critical summer and are also in the market for a versatile forward and centre back to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad for the new season.

Chelsea step up pursuit of Joao Pedro

With a striker and left winger now signed, attention turns to bringing in a versatile forward, with both Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix set to leave this summer.

Chelsea are thought to have had a bid in excess of £50m rejected for Pedro, with Brighton wanting around £60m for the 23-year-old.

Newcastle also hold a strong interest in the Brazil international, and Romano has now provided an update on the race for Pedro.

He took to X.com and said:

“Understand Chelsea have now intensified talks to advance on João Pedro deal!

“Chelsea are focused on João deal with Brighton after signing Jamie Bynoe-Gittens with medical yesterday.

Nkunku and Felix set to leave

Pedro reportedly would be a replacement for Nkunku and the Frenchman is thought to be of interest to Manchester United, whilst Bayern Munich explored a deal in January.

Chelsea paid £52m for the France international in the summer of 2023, but you would have to imagine they are unlikely to sell him for more than that.

Felix is set to leave despite only joining last summer from Atletico Madrid for £45m, and is attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.
