Hebburn Town are weighing moves for three Sunderland prospects after clinching promotion with an against-the-odds title win.
Sunderland Echo understands that Hebburn are tracking three Sunderland youngsters. Cameron and Waters are due to leave Sunderland in June on free transfers after loan spells with the Hornets.
The Hornets topped the Northern Premier League Premier Division with 79 points from 40 games, winning 23, drawing 10 and losing seven. They finished two points clear of Hednesford Town and seven ahead of FC United of Manchester.
Cameron spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Hebburn before joining Boston United, with Isaac Allan replacing him at the SFC Stadium midway through the season. Waters impressed during his stint, maintaining a strong goals-to-minutes ratio and scoring in the final match.
Boss Daniel Moore recently praised Allan’s decisive saves and highlighted Waters’ impact in the 2-1 win at Bamber Bridge, a result that left Hebburn three points from sealing the title. They went on to complete the job, earning a historic promotion to National League North.
Allan is also of interest, but he remains under contract at Sunderland next season, so any return would have to be a loan. With both Cameron and Allan goalkeepers, Hebburn are only likely to pursue one as part of their summer planning. The club are expected to operate on a modest budget and favour a young, enthusiastic group for the step up.
