Heerenveen beat Volendam 2-0 at the Kras Stadion, rising from eighth to sixth in the Eredivisie and tightening their grip on the qualification play-offs.

In the eighth minute, Luca Oyen headed in from close range after Vasilios Zagaritis swung over a measured cross to give the visitors the lead.

Bernt Klaverboer kept it that way with five saves, thwarting Bilal Ould-Chikh and Robert Muhren as Volendam pressed for an equaliser.

After the restart, the hosts lost goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen to injury, with Roy Steur coming on. Ould-Chikh remained Volendam's main outlet, sending in a string of crosses, but clear chances were scarce.

Dylan Vente then wrapped it up from the centre of the box (86.), finishing Jacob Trenskow's pass to secure the points.

Heerenveen defended stoutly when required, racking up 32 clearances to see the game out.

Volendam remain 16th in the relegation play-off place. Next, Volendam visit Excelsior. Heerenveen travel to NAC Breda next.
