Following reports that Pellegrino Matarazzo was to be sacked by TSG Hoffenheim on Monday, the Bundesliga side have now officially confirmed the decision.

The US coach and assistant coach Michael Kammermeyer have been relieved of their duties following Sunday's 0-0 draw with Augsburg, which leaves Hoffenheim 15th in the Bundesliga with nine points from 10 games.

"The decision was not an easy one, especially as I have had a very good and open dialogue with Rino in the weeks since I took over," said Hoffenheim managing director for sport Andreas Schicker.

"However, a number of factors have now led us to end our cooperation with Rino as head coach. In addition to our current lack of points in the Bundesliga with nine points after ten games, the lack of consistency in our performances this season has also contributed to our decision.

“We would like to thank Rino and Michael for their commitment during their time at TSG Hoffenheim and wish them all the best for the future.”

Matarazzo, who was appointed Hoffenheim boss in February 2023, said:

"Unfortunately, the time has come for us to go our separate ways. I will always look back on an enlightening time full of challenges and great moments of success.

“I am proud to have worked with this team and this coaching staff, who were prepared to go through fire and water with and for each other. For that I will always be grateful. I wish TSG every success in the future and our boys every success in all three competitions.”

Sky Germany has named Sturm Graz coach Christian Ilzer as the favorite to take over from Matarazzo.
