Blackburn Rovers are set to make an £800k profit on striker Makhtar Gueye, when he joins Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.
Blackburn Rovers are set to make a profit in the region of £800k when they sell striker Makhtar Gueye to Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua this January.
The 28-year-old joined the Blue and Whites in the summer of 2024 for a fee of around £1m, but hasn't had the impact he would've hoped, scoring just eight times in 65 outings across all competitions.
This has seen Rovers become keen to move the player on this January, and they seem to have found a suitor in Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua, according to reports last week.
Now, journalist Alan Nixon has revealed via his Patreon page that Blackburn are actually set to make a profit from the sale of Gueye, as his move to China will be worth up to £1.8m.
This will come as a huge boost for Blackburn, as they will actually turn a profit for a player who has struggled during his time at the club, which very rarely happens.

This season has been a nightmare for Gueye, who has failed to score a single goal for Blackburn in his 17 appearances across all competitions, leaving him surplus to requirements for Valerian Ismael's side.
The Senegalese striker hasn't started a Championship game all season, and hasn't featured for the Lancashire-based side since December 13th, where he made a six-minute cameo in a 2-1 defeat to Portsmouth.
It was clear that Rovers were going to try and move him on this January, and it seems they are set to do just that, as a deal which would take Gueye to last season's Chinese Super League runners-up, Shanghai Shenhua, is getting closer.
In a fresh update from Nixon on Sunday, the journalist revealed that Blackburn are actually set to turn a profit on their out-of-favour forward, with the sale to the Chinese side reportedly worth up to £1.8m.
Rovers paid a reported £1m fee for Gueye when they signed him from Belgian side RWD Molenbeek 18 months ago, and are now going to sell him on for £800k more, after he struggled to have the desired impact at Ewood Park.
This represents an excellent piece of business from Blackburn if they do in fact turn a profit, and it will certainly soften the blow of the 28-year-old's move not working out in the first place.

The former Premier League champions are keen to strengthen their side this winter, as they sit just two places and four points above the relegation zone after 25 matches.
Getting rid of some of their deadwood is key to freeing up space in the squad and on the wage bill, but turning a profit on a player who hasn't lived up to expectations will go down as an excellent piece of business.
Blackburn will undoubtedly be delighted should they manage to sell Gueye on for more than they brought him for, and that fee can be reinvested towards the club's efforts to survive in the Championship this season.
