A must-win fixture for Man City as Bournemouth eye Europe in Andoni Iraola’s final home game in charge
A pivotal night in the Premier League has arrived as Bournemouth take on Manchester City.
Man City have seen the gap at the top of the table stretch to five points after Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Burnley last night, but the result does not change the FA Cup winners’ mindset on the south coast.
With one game remaining after today - at home to Europa League finalists Aston Villa - Pep Guardiola’s side know only a win will ensure the title race goes right down to the wire.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, stand of the cusp of history. Never before in the club’s 127-year existence has European football been on the table, but that will all change if they avoid defeat.
A point will guarantee a top-eight finish with a game to spare and a place in the Conference League at the very least for next season.
Having said that, the Cherries did beat City in the corresponding Premier League fixture 18 months ago and know a repeat will take the battle with Liverpool for Champions League football to the final day of the campaign.
Another interesting sub-plot to tonight’s game is Andoni Iraola manages Bournemouth for the last time at the Vitality Stadium and has said that finishing in the European places would be the best way to sign off.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on Sky Sports. Coverage starts at 7pm BST on Sky Sports Main Event ahead of kick-off at 7.30pm.
