Howe unsure if Guimaraes available ahead of Liverpool clash | OneFootball

Eddie Howe has said he is still unsure if Bruno Guimaraes will be available for Newcastle’s trip to Liverpool this weekend.

Newcastle travel to Anfield on Saturday night in a huge clash for the club’s top-four hopes. The Magpies are currently ninth in the table, but can move level on points with sixth-placed Liverpool with a win.

However, their plans are complicated by doubts over Guimaraes. The Brazil international has missed the club’s past two fixtures and Howe has admitted he is unsure whether the midfielder will be passed fit to feature, despite training on Thursday.

“Still unknown. He did really well to be with us in Paris. He was desperate to be there and support.

“He trained with us yesterday but that was more as a test. Today is when we will decide.”

Howe will hope Guimaraes can feature, with Newcastle boasting a poor record in his absence.

The captain has missed nine Premier League fixtures since signing for Newcastle from Lyon in February 2022 and Newcastle have failed to win in his absence.
