Hamburger SV are weighing moves for Leeds United defender Sebastian Bornauw and OGC Nice striker Terem Moffi as they seek a defensive leader and another forward. Hamburger Abendblatt reports the club are working on both.

Sporting director Claus Costa said HSV know both players and that they feature on their shortlist, while stressing that no deal is close.

Köln had been linked with bringing Bornauw back, but the Belgian could instead replace Luka Vuskovic in Hamburg. The 27-year-old is not in Daniel Farke’s plans for the new season, the report said.

Moffi’s signing is planned to add further punch up front after the arrival of Zambian international Patson Daka. The Nigerian will be a free agent next summer if he remains with Nice, having returned from an underwhelming loan at Porto.

Head coach Merlin Polzin said yesterday that “something will definitely happen” when asked about signing a striker.
