Huddersfield Town are looking to bounce back from a defeat against Stockport County last time out
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Huddersfield Town host Bolton Wanderers on Thursday night after a short break for the October internationals, and it's a match that both clubs could do with winning after recent disappointments.
The Terriers are looking to right the wrongs from before the break, which saw them fall to a 2-1 defeat to ten-man Stockport County and has added to frustrations over Lee Grant's management.
With Tyler Onyango’s red card for the Hatters coming before the hour mark in that last outing, many felt that Huddersfield boss Grant should have taken advantage of the situation - it didn't happen however, and Town slipped to their fourth defeat of the League One season.
FLW asked our Huddersfield fan pundit, Graeme Rayner, what changes he feels Grant should be making this time around to ensure a more positive result against Bolton, who themselves were left humiliated with a 3-0 defeat away at Burton Albion on Saturday.
Speaking to Football League World, Graeme said: “I would say that he needs to make a change on our left flank and that I would be changing both positions there.
“So, I'd be putting Sean Roughan in at left-back, and I'd be putting in Cameron Ashia at left-wing, and that's the change I'll be making.
“I think our left flank was the weakest in our last home game against Stockport, and so I'd be changing both of those positions, and both of those players are more than capable of doing that job.
“And I think they’d do a better job than the players who played there previously in the last game, which were Ruben Roosken at left-back, and Leo Castledine at left-wing.
“Castledine isn't a left winger, he's a 10, really.
"And Roosken, I think he's probably best suited to play left wing-back, but we've been playing him as either an out-and-out left-back or an out-and-out left winger, which means we’re not getting the best out of him.”
Still only 19 years old, Ashia is only just breaking into Huddersfield’s first team, but has clearly made a strong impression on fans like Graeme in the short cameos he has been handed.
That is no doubt in part due to his incredible start to the season, when he was brought on for Ben Wiles in the 86th minute against Reading, in the second game of the campaign, and netted his first goal for the senior side in stoppage time just seven minutes later.
Coming as his league debut, it could scarcely have gone much better, and has naturally begun chatter about what he may be capable of given more opportunities.
So far, he’s played just over an hour of football in League One, and while Grant won’t want to expose him to the pressure that comes with professional football at that level too soon, it certainly seems like he’s ready to be tested.
Fans are always eager to see an academy product prosper, so after a frustrating international break, mulling over the disappointing defeat to Stockport, greater involvement for Ashia may be just the ticket to lift the mood.
Huddersfield are looking to bounce back to winning ways, and in Bolton they have the perfect opponent.
They have managed four wins this season, but every single one of them has come at the Toughsheet Community Stadium; they’re yet to pick up three points on the road.
Given Huddersfield are hosting on Thursday night, they’ll like those odds, but will hope that sorry record doesn’t give the Trotters extra motivation.
In the likes of Ashia and Roughan, as Graeme suggests, Grant has everything he needs to shake things up and return to winning ways against Bolton.
