Huddersfield Town are plotting a loan move for Sunderland goalkeeper Matty Young ahead of the 2026-27 season, according to Alan Nixon. Sunderland have been vetting potential destinations and Huddersfield are expected to receive approval to borrow the England youth international.

Young is highly rated at the Stadium of Light and has already built senior experience. After a spell at Darlington, he enjoyed two loans with Salford City and featured in the League Two play-off final at Wembley, a 3-0 defeat to Notts County last season.

The 19-year-old has represented England at under-18, under-19 and under-20 level, and received an under-21 call-up last year. A switch to Huddersfield would offer another step in his development, with Lee Nicholls, Jak Alnwick, Jacob Chapman and Nik Tzanev currently in the Terriers’ department.

Elsewhere, Wrexham have joined Millwall in showing interest in Anthony Patterson. He is understood to be valued at £8m to £10m if leaving permanently, while both clubs have been linked with a loan, and he spent the second half of last season away from Sunderland.

Patterson is understood to prefer a permanent move this summer. Wrexham’s pursuit could also influence Arthur Okonkwo’s future, with claims the club may allow last season’s goalkeeper to move on if they can land Patterson.
