In a recent post on Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon stated that Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson is on the radar of Wrexham this summer. It has been claimed that the Welsh-based club are planning to sign the talented goalie from the Black Cats in this transfer window.
Patterson proved himself to be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks while on loan at Millwall in the EFL Championship last season. The 26-year-old made 16 appearances for the English club in the previous campaign, conceding 14 goals and keeping seven clean sheets in the process across various competitions.
The English sensation is currently one of the most talented keepers in his homeland. Hence, it is no surprise that he is generating interest from Wrexham this summer following his impressive spell in the Championship last season.
His current contract at Sunderland will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, the Black Cats are under no pressure to cash in on him in this transfer window.

Patterson is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make some impressive saves at the back for his team. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when being closed down by the opposition attackers and is a tidy passer as well from the back.
Standing at 1.89m, the English talent can use his commanding frame to dominate his penalty area with authority and conviction. However, he is currently surplus to requirements at the Wearside club.
Patterson would struggle to get regular playing time in Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris’ first team if he stays with them beyond this summer. At 26, Patterson has his peak years ahead of him. Furthermore, his market value will only go up in the future. However, the Black Cats cannot afford to keep him unhappy on the bench.
It would be logical for Sunderland to cash in on him and use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement this summer. With all things considered, Le Bris should consider cutting Patterson loose before the end of this transfer window.
