Huddersfield Town are set for a glamour tie in the third round of the Carabao Cup as they welcome Premier League giants Manchester City to the Accu Stadium on Wednesday.
The Terriers, who were held to a goalless draw by Burton Albion at the weekend, will be looking to cause a major upset against Pep Guardiola’s side.
The visitors have completely dominated this fixture in recent years, winning the last seven encounters. The Terriers, however, have shown their own cup resilience this season, reaching this stage via two dramatic penalty shootout victories.
Huddersfield Town are contending with a number of injuries ahead of their cup tie. Manager Lee Grant will definitely be without Mickel Miller and Antony Evans, while key midfielder Herbie Kane is a major doubt with a groin problem. Lynden Gooch and Jack Whatmough are also unlikely to be risked. In attack, however, the Terriers can count on Joe Taylor, who is in fine form at home and will spearhead the forward line.
Pep Guardiola will heavily rotate his squad. Erling Haaland may be rested as a precaution after a minor back issue, but John Stones is expected to make his first start after returning from injury. A number of fringe names, including goalkeeper James Trafford and winger Oscar Bobb, are in line to start.
The Terriers have proven they are a tough team to beat in the cup, progressing through two rounds on penalties after drawing both games. Their recent league form has been patchy, with the team now winless in their last two outings. Their defensive record against City is a major concern, having conceded 14 goals in the last three meetings alone.
City are looking to build momentum after a mixed start to their Premier League season, which continued with a weekend draw at Arsenal. Despite expected rotation, their squad depth is formidable. The Sky Blues have scored 16 goals in their last five games against Huddersfield.
Huddersfield Town predicted XI: Nichols; Sorensen, Feeney, Wallace, Roughan; Vost, Kasumu; Charles, Castledine, Alves; Taylor
Manchester City predicted XI: Trafford; Nunes, Stones, Ake, Lewis; Bobb, Silva, Gonzalez, Reijnders, Savinho; Foden.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Football in the UK. Coverage begins at 7:30 pm BST.
