Hugo Duro converted a 98th-minute penalty he had won against Pacheco to clinch Valencia’s 3-2 comeback over Alavés at Mestalla. The hosts turned the game in stoppage time, and their leading scorer delivered again.
According to AS, the Madrid-born forward thrives late in games, sometimes from the start and, as on Sunday night, off the bench to punish tiring defences while building on his team-mates’ work.
With a draw looming, Duro’s spot-kick effectively rescued two points against Alavés. He had done similar against Sevilla at Mestalla, netting in the 93rd minute to level at 1-1 and earn a point.
He struck in added time against Getafe too, scoring in the 97th minute to complete a 3-0 win, and against Athletic in the 93rd minute to secure a 2-0 victory.
In all, four of his eight league goals this season have arrived in stoppage time. After the Alavés win he joked that Sadiq looked like Pelé.
