It is never a good thing to be asking FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick about the club’s future transfer plans at a time when the season is at one of its most important junctures. Yet that does not stop journalists from trying to get something out of the German.
Flick was never going to open the door too wide on this subject in March, and his latest comments made that clear. With Barcelona still fighting on multiple fronts, the coach refused to get dragged into public decisions over the futures of Marcus Rashford and Joao Cancelo.
As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Flick was asked about the two loanees and said:
“There are two months ahead and we need everyone until the end, I do not know what will happen.”
That is the key message from a Barcelona perspective. Flick is not dismissing either player, but he is also not allowing the conversation to drift away from the season itself. He added:
“Now is not the moment to say whether you want a player or not. Anything can happen.”
Flick also made it clear that he trusts the team immensely. He continued:
“I believe in my players, in all of them.”
On Rashford and Cancelo specifically, he said:
“They give high quality to the team and that is good. We will speak at the end of the season and we will see what happens.”
Rashford has been here since the start of the season, while Cancelo arrived in January. Both players have contributed in different roles, and the latter in particular has been brilliant in recent weeks after Balde’s injury.
Under the right circumstances, Barcelona would love to keep both of them in the mix going forward, and we will have to wait and see how things play out.
