Sunderland attacking midfielder Enzo Le Fée (25) has spoken at length to L’Equipe on his life on Wearside. The FC Lorient Academy graduate has flourished since making the move to then-Championship side Sunderland a year ago, initially on loan from AS Roma. Le Fée only spent six months with the Giallorossi. “Serie A is not a league I’m fond of“, Le Fée says. “It’s very tactical, with blocks facing each other, it lacks a bit of excitement. And the coach who convinced me to come, Daniele De Rossi, was sacked quite quickly.”
Le Fée quickly endeared himself to the Stadium of Light’s faithful fanbase with eye-catching performances at the heart of midfield, despite the player’s diminutive nature in a physical league. “I’m not the biggest player, but in a duel, if a bigger opponent is only at 80 %, he’s going to lose because I’ll always be at 100 %.”
Le Fée added to L’Equipe that he had no doubt he’d flourish in England under the tutelage of Régis Le Bris, who already oversaw his development in Lorient. The Sunderland head coach reportedly told Le Fée that he performs best in a team that does not necessarily dominate possession. “He was right. I find myself in intermediate positions to set up my forwards when we win the ball back, and I really enjoy that.”
Enzo Le Fée is contracted to Sunderland until 2029, and the player backs himself to stay in the Premier League for the long haul. “I can still get better, definitely better, but I’ve never been as physically fit as I am now. I don’t see myself leaving England.“
