According to as.com, Ibai Sanz has become Córdoba’s 10th new arrival for this season, joining on loan from Athletic de Bilbao. The 22-year-old striker posted 10 goals and five assists for the Basques’ reserve side in Primera Federación last term, and remains under contract until 30 June 2029.
His signing helps rebuild a forward line stripped by the exits of Sergi Guardiola and Niko Obolskii when their deals expired on 30 June, plus Adrián Fuentes’ move to Mallorca after his 3 million euros release clause was paid, following 14 goals in his first professional season. Sanz joins Enol, a Huesca striker announced days ago after becoming a free agent.
Born in Barakaldo, he came through Lezama and debuted for Athletic’s second team in 2021-22, the league’s inaugural Primera Federación season. He featured in seven matches without scoring.
His first loan came in 2022-23 at Gerkina in Segunda Federación, where he played 34 league games, scored eight, started 24 and logged 1,999 minutes. A year later he moved to Sestao in Primera Federación, appearing 29 times, starting 11 and adding four goals at Las Llanas.
Back at Bilbao Athletic in 2024-25 and 2025-26, Sanz hit 10 in each campaign. He assumed a leading role last season, starting 32 of 38 outings and racking up 2,534 minutes. He has yet to serve a senior suspension.
His arrival also uses one of Córdoba’s two permitted loan slots this season after a rule change. The report added that midfielder Eder García had been linked with a similar move on 16 June. Sanz said he was very happy to join a historic club and expressed his enthusiasm for Córdoba.
