As confirmed earlier today by Real Madrid, Antonio Rudiger has undergone knee surgery to address a problem that had been plaguing him for months together now.

As a result of the surgery, the 32-year-old German international will now be out of action for the rest of the season and could be sidelined for close to two months.

It would mean that Rudiger is staring at the risk of missing the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer as well as the UEFA Nations League with the German national team.

Rudiger’s message after surgery

Following the successful surgery today, Rudiger took to social media to send a message of positivity and hope to the fans.

The German international explained that he had been struggling with the knee issue for seven months and could not put off the surgery any longer, while vowing to try and come back to action as soon as possible.

“After I have played more than seven month with severe pain, it was unfortunately unavoidable that I had to undergo a meniscus surgery. Now I’m finally pain-free again, and the surgery was a success,” the German wrote.

“Thanks to the medical team and especially @guidospiran. I want to be able to play again as soon as possible as two big tournaments with the Nations League and the Club World Cup are in front of me, but I have to look from week to week now and we will see.”

Concluding, he added: “I will do everything I can to make it happen. See you soon and take care of yourselves.”

Ceballos’ message

At the same time, Rudiger’s teammate Dani Ceballos was also confirmed to have picked up an ankle sprain this past weekend, casting doubts over his availability for this weekend’s La Liga clash vs Celta Vigo.

The midfielder also took to social media to send a message to the fans, writing: “When they see you hitting rock bottom, show them that it was just to get some momentum.”

Ceballos has grown into an important player for Carlo Ancelotti and as such the fitness setback will come as a concern for Real Madrid heading into the final phase of the season.

The hope is that the midfielder could be available for the final four games of the season even if he misses out Sunday’s clash vs Celta.
