Roma and Brazil supporters face a nervous wait to hear the extent of the damage suffered by wing-back Wesley, who was forced off with an injury just 15 minutes into his nation’s World Cup warm-up match against Egypt.

Wesley’s World Cup at risk after injury in Brazil friendly

Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil claimed a 2-1 victory over Egypt in an international friendly late on Saturday evening thanks to goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Endrick, but Roma star Wesley, who had started at right-back for the Selecao, picked up an injury after a quarter of an hour.

The Giallorossi wideman was left in tears on the pitch at the Huntingdon Bank Field in Cleveland, Ohio, aware that his 2026 World Cup campaign is now at risk.

Ancelotti confirmed after full-time that Wesley would report for medical checks on Sunday, and the Brazil international now faces a nervous wait to hear the results of those checks.

“We will have to wait until tomorrow for the diagnosis,” said Ancelotti (via Corriere dello Sport).

The head coach did offer some encouragement: “I think he will have time to recover and be with us at the World Cup. If not, we will have to choose somebody else and we have time to do that.

“During the day tomorrow, we will carry out diagnostic tests. It’s urgent, it worries us. He’s an important player, he plays to the best of his ability. He’s learned a lot about the parts of the game he wasn’t so good at in Italy, the defensive phase, the marking.

“Lasmar (the Brazil doctor) and his team will update you. I hope it’s nothing serious and that he receives the treatment he needs and that he can continue with us. But, I won’t deny that there is some urgency and concern. It would be a shame if it were something serious.”
