Inter Milan veteran Henrikh Mkhitaryan could reportedly return to the starting XI when the Nerazzurri face Cagliari on Friday.
According to L’Interista, the 37-year-old may get the nod in midfield ahead of Polish superstar Piotr Zielinski.
Fresh off a stunning 4-3 comeback at Como last weekend, Inter will take on relegation-battling Cagliari in a must-win home fixture.
Indeed, Cristian Chivu’s men can take another massive step toward securing their 21st Scudetto against perennial Serie A strugglers.
Sitting nine points clear of second-placed Napoli, the Nerazzurri can intensify the pressure on the reigning champions ahead of their home clash against Lazio.
Mkhitaryan’s last league start came in Inter’s gut-wrenching 1-0 defeat to AC Milan in March’s Derby della Madonnina.
However, he has since made three Serie A appearances, including back-to-back cameos against Roma and Como.
Despite losing his starting berth to Zielinski, the former Arsenal and Manchester United star could get the nod on Friday.
Indeed, Zielinski’s performance at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia failed to impress, prompting Cristian Chivu to reconsider his midfield selection.
Meanwhile, Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella are expected to retain their spots in the middle of the park.
