Inter are waiting for Atalanta to name their price for Ademola Lookman before tabling another bid. In the meantime, the player has stopped practicing and might have left Bergamo, if not Italy altogether.
The Scudetto runner-ups want to see their chase through, but their list of fallback options is growing by the day, albeit with some caveats, Sky reports. Giuseppe Marotta and company have ruled out some options, like Nicolas Gonzalez and Paulo Dybala. They don’t want to solve a problem for Juventus, while La Joya has a very high salary. Plus, his entourage is notoriously hard to deal with. Federico Chiesa is also unlikely.
Inter would likely turn their attention to a speedster from a foreign league if they couldn’t sign Lookman. Christopher Nkunku is the most buzzed-about name, but he wouldn’t come cheap. Jadon Sancho would be more affordable. He has only a year left on his contract, and Chelsea are eager to get rid of him. Juventus were on the precipice of signing him for about €20M before halting the talks to trim their squad.
The Nerazzurri could also examine Alejandro Garnacho. He’s set to leave Manchester United but might prefer staying in England. They also like Antonio Nusa, but he’s very pricey for Serie A standards. According to Fabrizio Romano (via Tuttomercatoweb), they are constantly being offered players by agents and intermediaries, like, for instance, Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye.
We’ll see who’ll flinch first, but, even if things have gotten ugly, the deal is probably destined to get done at some point. As for the plan Bs, they’ll be willing to spend more for the youngest and most electrifying options.
