Coventry City secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years after a 1–1 draw with Blackburn Rovers as Bobby Thomas cancelled out Ryoya Morishita’s opening goal.

Thomas, who found the all-important equaliser on the night, repeatedly turned the focus away from himself and onto the supporters as Coventry confirmed their return to the top flight.

He said: “It’s been such a long time since this club has been in the Premier League, so we’re just happy we can give the supporters something to shout about. They backed us the whole way. It’s been a long 25 years for them, so to do this for the fans means everything.”

Midfielder Matt Grimes echoed those sentiments, emphasising the collective effort behind Coventry’s rise over the past few seasons. He said: “It’s been a project over the last few years, building the squad and adding the right players. To achieve this now is massive for everyone involved.”

Despite the celebrations, Thomas acknowledged the challenge Blackburn posed, with the visitors still fighting at the other end of the table.

“We knew they’d be tough. They’re fighting for their lives as well, so they had a big incentive to come here and win. A point for us is brilliant.”

Coventry’s focus now turns to securing the Championship title with three games remaining, but after a quarter of a century away, their long-awaited Premier League return is finally confirmed.
