Inter Milan have reportedly revived their interest in Federico Chiesa who has been enduring a rough start to life at Anfield Road.
The 27-year-old spent the four previous campaigns at Juventus. And despite his injury ordeal, the club’s supporters widely viewed him as a key figure.
However, this all changed last summer with the appointment of Thiago Motta.
The new Juventus boss had no place for Chiesa in his tactical plans. Hence, the management told the winger to find himself a new club.
This proved to be a complex task. Although many suitors emerged, it wasn’t easy to materialize a deal, especially with the player’s contract a year later.
While Inter were one of several top European clubs who were keeping tabs on the situation, the Euro 2020 hero eventually joined Liverpool.
However, the Italian’s Premier League switch has yet to bear its fruits. Between recurring injury problems and stern competition for a starting role, Chiesa has been reduced to an afterthought already, especially with his teammates thriving in his absence.
The Fiorentina youth product has only earned two brief cameos between the Premier League and the Champions League. His solitary start ensued in the Carabao Cup.
So according to Italian journalist Alfio Musmarra (via FcInter1908), Inter could try to take advantage of the situation.
The journalist claims the Nerazzurri have rekindled their interest in the player. Hence, they could try to get him back to Italian soil.
Nevertheless, Musmarra admits that the winger’s relatively hefty salary remains the main hurdle.
However, if Chiesa would be willing to make a compromise, the Italian champions would be happy to add him to Simone Inzaghi’s ranks.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Liverpool would be willing to part ways with their summer signing this rapidly.
