Jack Grealish hasn’t played for Manchester City since their 2-1 win over Wolves at Molineux. The England international came off the bench and made a critical contribution to Manchester City’s last-gasp win. But since then the winger has been out with an undisclosed injury. But speaking yesterday Pep Guardiola provided some clarity on the situation surrounding City’s winger.
Speaking before his team takes on Brighton today Pep Guardiola was asked about the form of Jack Grealish this season. He told the media during his pre-game press conference that Grealish has suffered a number of injury setbacks this season. Guardiola explained: “He’s had two or three setbacks in terms of injuries that could not be his rhythm, this is the only problem. (So how is he?) He has to (be upbeat), we have to (keep him motivated). At the end, he has to be fit to play. But it’s not only Jack, there are many players that happened, this is the reality.”
What made the situation even more confusing around Jack Grealish was his selection in England’s squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches. It is clearly a bone of contention for Pep Guardiola to see England name Grealish in their squad when he is unfit to play for Manchester City. But that is another topic to discuss in the coming days.
Jack Grealish had looked set for a big season after missing out on selection in England’s squad for last summer’s European Championships. But injuries have held him back from making the impact he would’ve liked this season. The hope is he can return after the international break and help his team. But he must first get over the injury that has kept him out in recent weeks.
