Matthias Jaissle has quit Al-Ahli a year before his deal expired to take the Newcastle United job, with compensation put at about 11 million euros.

According to Al-Arabiya FM, he offered himself to Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr in recent days in the hope of landing either post, and also held earlier talks with an AC Milan delegation as he explored an exit.

Al-Ahli are understood to have gone to great lengths to keep him, showing flexibility in discussions, but the German is said to have set conditions the club felt were impossible.

One demand was said to be a fantastical clause preventing the club from sacking him under any circumstances, regardless of results. If Al-Ahli still moved him on, a penalty of around 170 million riyals would have applied.

The fresh claims surfaced on Friday evening as behind-the-scenes details of his departure emerged.
