James Morrison has told his West Brom squad to be ready as he steps up from interim to permanent head coach ahead of pre-season.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 40-year-old club great will begin his tenure later this month when players report back, having previously served as caretaker on three occasions and navigated a relegation fight from February.
He kept changes to a minimum during his two-month stint, but accepts the dynamics shift now he holds the job full time, including how players address him.
An understated figure who avoids the spotlight, Morrison has a forensic grasp of Albion’s inner workings. He won two promotions with the Baggies and made nine Premier League campaigns at The Hawthorns, and is known for exacting standards.
He intends to stay true to himself, avoid wholesale change and keep expectations high. He believes he understands what suits the club and will focus on promoting good people and improving players.
Decisions around his backroom team are still to be finalised. Albion want to retain influential coach Matt Gill, though Gill has long assisted the out-of-work Russell Martin, who is linked with summer roles at Blackburn, Watford and League One newcomers Leicester, among others.
