Jesse Marsch has confirmed he will remain Canada head coach beyond this summer’s home World Cup. The coach said in an Instagram post that he will extend his stay for four years.

The 2026 tournament is being staged in USA, Mexico and Canada, and Marsch will lead a group campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland.

Since taking charge in May 2024, he has overseen 12 wins, 12 draws and five defeats. Canada finished fourth at the 2024 Copa America, losing to Argentina in the semi-final before a penalties defeat to Uruguay in the third-place play-off.

Marsch said he loves the squad, believes in its potential at the World Cup and beyond, and accepts there is significant work to do from grassroots through the professional ranks. He set out aims to unite the programme, improve standards and inspire the next generation.

Marsch succeeded Marcelo Bielsa in February 2022 and kept Leeds in the Premier League that season, but was dismissed at the start of February 2023 after a poor win rate and fan dissatisfaction. He has since maintained Leeds could have stayed up had he remained in charge, citing underlying numbers that, in his view, painted them as a midtable side.
