FC Barcelona have their presidential elections set to take place on Sunday, and in the lead-up to them, Victor Font and Joan Laporta have resorted to publicly smearing each other’s reputations in a bid to sway votes in their favour.

In the presidential debate yesterday, Joan Laporta and Victor Font produced several fiery exchanges, but one issue in particular struck a chord with supporters: the growing cost of attending matches.

With club members and fans closely following the discussion, both candidates touched on a wide range of topics, including the sporting project, squad planning, and the club’s long-term direction. However, it was the subject of ticket prices that generated one of the most eye-catching moments of the debate.

Victor Font took direct aim at Laporta over how expensive it has become for ordinary fans, especially those without season tickets, to attend games. In doing so, he presented a scenario that many Barcelona supporters will have found painfully relatable.

As quoted by SPORT, he said:

“What would you say to a family of four club members who have to spend €636 to attend Barcelona vs Sevilla?”

To this, Laporta responded by promising to reduce the cost of tickets by 50%. He replied:

“Now that we have recovered the club after going through the desert, what we will do is give a 50% discount to non–season ticket members. I’m not just talking like you. We have done very good work, and we are entering a phase of consolidation.”

That is a huge commitment, especially given the criticism surrounding accessibility for regular supporters in recent seasons.

Should Laporta follow through on that promise, it could mark a significant shift in how match-going fans experience Barcelona in the years ahead. For many who have felt priced out of attending games, it is exactly the kind of message they would have wanted to hear.
