João Gomes transfer to Aston Villa could net Flamengo around R$ 35 million | OneFootball

João Gomes’ transfer from Wolverhampton to Aston Villa, worth 38 million pounds, is set to hand Flamengo a windfall that could reach R$ 35.2 million.

According to Globo.com, the fee equates to about R$ 261 million and activates a 10% sell-on clause plus FIFA’s solidarity payments.

The clause, agreed when Flamengo sold Gomes to Wolverhampton in 2023, is worth R$ 26.1 million. As his formative club, Flamengo are also entitled to 3.5% via the solidarity mechanism, roughly R$ 9.1 million. Combined, the return could rise to R$ 35.2 million.

Before Villa struck a deal, Atlético Madrid were close to signing the midfielder for 45 million euros, with salary and contract terms agreed. That move was cancelled amid an impasse involving agent Jorge Mendes. Manchester United and Liverpool then made contact, but Villa won the race.

A Flamengo academy graduate from 2009 to 2022, Gomes debuted for the first team on 1 November 2020 at 19 against São Paulo in the Campeonato Brasileiro. He left after 122 appearances, with four goals and four assists.
