Leeds United striker Joel Piroe reflected on a proud debut that ended in a painful World Cup play-off defeat for Suriname.
The player said in a post that it was "A proud moment, but not how we imagined it. Had and felt a huge amount of support. We will come back stronger."
Born in the Netherlands, Piroe represented his country up to under-20 level before switching allegiance in January to Suriname, for whom he qualifies through his father.
Suriname advanced from the CONCACAF qualifiers to the inter-confederation play-offs, meeting Bolivia in a semi-final, with the winners to face Iraq for a place at the tournament.
Piroe went straight into the starting line-up on Friday and was heavily involved as Suriname led 1-0, but Bolivia turned it around to win 2-1, ending their World Cup bid.
