Former Sunderland coach John Potter has left Raith Rovers after almost three years, departing his role as technical director at the Scottish Championship club.
The club said in a statement that Potter had departed with immediate effect and that manager Dougie Imrie would take full control of the football department, while thanking him for his work.
His exit follows change at Stark’s Park, with Raith recently replacing Barry Robson with former Morton boss Imrie.
Potter previously worked at the Stadium of Light under Jack Ross.
Ross was appointed Sunderland head coach in May 2018 after back-to-back relegations to League One. He reached the play-off final in his first season, losing to Charlton Athletic, and was dismissed in October 2019 with the team sixth.
He returned to Scotland with Hibernian later in 2019, stabilised a disrupted first season, then guided Hibs to third in 2020-21 and a Scottish Cup final. He left in December 2021, days before a League Cup final.
Ross took charge of Dundee United in 2022 but heavy domestic and European defeats, including a chastening loss to Celtic, brought a swift end after only a handful of matches. He joined Newcastle United in 2023 in a senior coaching development role, then was promoted in July 2025 to head of football strategy, focusing on long-term planning off the touchline.
