John Stones calls his Arsenal equaliser a “winning goal” | OneFootball

John Stones thinks he scored the winning goal in Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal, based on comments in his most recent press conference.

Just over a week on from Arsenal’s draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, there’s already been plenty for the two teams to turn their attentions to.

Arsenal secured a comfortable 5-1 win over Bolton Wanderers before snatching a last-gasp 4-2 victory over Leicester City, whilst Manchester City scraped past Watford 2-1 in the cup before dropping points in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United in the league.

Both teams will now play their second Champions League fixture of the season, with Arsenal hosting PSG and City travelling away to Slovan Bratislava.

But ahead of City’s trip to Slovakia, John Stones made a bizarre comment about his impact on the Arsenal game.

Speaking in a press conference, Stones said: “Everyone has played a massive part in [City’s] success, and playing the role when called upon.

“For instance, coming on at Arsenal, ending up scoring the winning goal, and that was my time to be ready when called upon – as have other players doing the same!”

The issue is that Stones didn’t score the winning goal. He scored an equaliser in a match that finished 2-2. City may have celebrated it like a winner, but in fact it was still two dropped points.

Mikel Arteta should feel encouraged that City view drawing at home to Arsenal’s 10 men as a win, but someone might want to let Stones know.
