John Terry believes Chelsea don’t have enough experience to beat Liverpool in this season’s title race, and doesn’t want to put pressure on the Blues.

Chelsea had a successful first season under Enzo Maresca in which they secured Champions League qualification, and won both the Conference League and the Club World Cup.

With last season’s success the pressure will be on to once again improve, and close the gap on the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

John Terry rates Chelsea title chances

Chelsea had a busy summer and revamped their forward line with five new attackers, whilst they also added cover at left back in the shape of Jorrel Hato.

Joao Pedro and Estevao have hit the ground running in terms of making an impact, and Chelsea possess some of the best young talent in their squad.

The Blues have made a good start to the season, and have seven points from a possible nine as they look to keep their title charge going for longer than last time out.

“I think they’re the strongest side [Liverpool],” he told talkSPORT.

“I think Man City have shown vulnerability again this season, I’m not sure Chelsea have enough experience in their squad to push them, and also don’t want to put pressure on the Chelsea squad as well, so I think it’s Liverpool’s to lose.”

Enzo Maresca under pressure to win the league?

Terry has previously said he doesn’t think Chelsea are ready to win the league, but Maresca will be expected to put a title challenge together.

The Blues have shown they can compete with the best teams, but if they are going to sustain a challenge or win the league, they’ve got to start beating the top sides regularly.

Progress this season will be closing the gap on those above, but at some point the Blues need to get themselves back to the top of the summit, and they’ve not been close since they last won it in 2017.
