Jordan Henderson is to undergo wrist surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2026 World Cup, according to The Athletic. The England midfielder was hurt during celebrations after the 3-2 win over Mexico in the last 16 on Sunday.

The 36-year-old landed awkwardly after stepping over an advertising hoarding as the squad marked the victory.

He was carried off on a stretcher and given oxygen, then taken to a hospital in Mexico City where the severity of the injury was confirmed.

Henderson has featured for only six minutes at this tournament, coming on as a substitute against Panama in the group stage.

The former England captain has 90 international caps.
