Juan Sartori shared an emotional message after Sunderland sealed a historic Europa League place with a home win over Chelsea at the Stadium of Light.

Sartori said in a post that it ranked among the finest moments of his life, sharing a family photo from the pitch. He also hailed Sunderland in the Europa League.

Régis Le Bris’ side finished seventh in the Premier League, a year on from promotion via the Championship play-offs. The club have climbed from League One to Europe in four years.

Sartori remains a key figure in the ownership alongside Kyril Louis-Dreyfus. The result capped a major season for the ownership group, who invested heavily last summer and have seen that ambition rewarded.

It was Sunderland’s first European qualification since 1973-74, ending a 53-year wait for European competition. Seventh also delivered just a fifth top-10 in the top flight across 70 years.
