Julian Brandt joins Ajax on three-year deal after Leeds United interest

Julian Brandt has joined Ajax, ending Leeds United’s summer pursuit of the Germany international midfielder.

The club said in a statement that the free agent has signed a three-year contract in Amsterdam, effective immediately and running until 30 June 2029.

Brandt, 30, left Borussia Dortmund when his deal expired this summer after seven seasons, and previously spent six years at Bayer Leverkusen. He has 48 Germany caps.

Leeds had tabled an offer and his father, Jurgen, visited Thorp Arch for talks with club officials. The player had offers elsewhere and opted for Ajax.

Leeds are assessing other attacking options after failing to secure Brandt before their pre-season tour of the USA. Marseille forward Igor Paixão, a target last summer, is among those under consideration.
