Serie A giants Juventus sustained a 1-0 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu. While the Bianconeri remain winless in the competition, the defeat was a sign of hope for Igor Tudor.
That is because the Croatian’s future has been called into question in recent weeks. He gave what was a rather curious press conference yesterday and to many fans, it seemed like Tudor was a man resigned to his fate.
His team came out fighting today though. Dusan Vlahovic could’ve easily handed them a second-half lead minutes before Jude Bellingham tapped home from close range. They had a spell in the first-half where the Old Lady created about three good chances.
Late in the game, they had sustained periods of possesion and created openings. More than that, the team seemed up for the occasion and the backline made vital late clearances to keep the side in the game.
Tudor also showed signs of shifting away from his 3-4-2-1 shape and used more of a flat 3-5-2 system – especially in the first-half to contain Real Madrid when they attacked.
One criticism aimed at him was his insistence on keeping his setup same. But today, he showed signs of adapting to the situation. There were no three points to win but the signs were good and with a game against struggling Lazio coming up, this performance and spirit is all Tudor needed.
